North Bali offers some of the island’s most famous dive sites, from the protected marine preserve Menjangan Island to the famous Liberty wreck off the coast of Tulamben. Even Lovina itself has a small reef, convenient for snorkeling and night dives.
Also nearby is Tulamben, and the renowned Liberty wreck, among the world’s top 15 dive sites. Originally an American supply ship in World War II, the 120m long wreck was hit by a Japanese torpedo. The ship, stranded on Tulamben’s rocky beach, was pushed back into the sea by Mount Agung’s 1963 eruption. Now resting at 3 to 29 meters, the wreck is adorned with coral, serving as a vibrant habitat for diverse marine life, including bump-head parrotfish, napoleon wrasse, and barracuda.
